Meeting Place & Travel Information

The FIRST Technical Colloquium is hosted by CERTA, the French Government CSIRT, and CERT RENATER, the CSIRT for the French national research and education network. The latter RENATER kindly offers its offices to be used for the TC (for a French page with maps and pictures click here):

ENSAM (Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts et Métiers)
151, boulevard de l'Hôpital
F - 75013 Paris
France

The location is quite close to the subway station "Place d'Italie", where subway lines 5, 6 and 7 intersect. Good maps of public transportation can be found here

International flights to Paris will usually terminate at "Aeroport Paris Charles de Gaulle" (CDG). The Paris subway system is excellent and provides fast connections from the airport to the heart of town. From CDG to the TC location take RER (fasttrack subway) line B direction Paris to "Denfert-Rochereau", and transfer there to Line 6 direction "Nation" (east) to "Place d'Italie". The ticket costs ? 7.75 in all. A taxi would be around ? 50 without the guarantee of making it faster to the destination.

From Paris Orly airport take "Orlyval" to "Antony", transfer to RER line B direction "Aéroport Ch. de Gaulle - Mitry - Claye", proceed to "Denfert-Rochereau", and transfer there to Line 6 direction "Nation" (east) to "Place d'Italie". The tickets cost ? 8.85 in all. A taxi would be around ? 35 without the guarantee of making it faster to the destination.

From Gare du Nord railway station (Eurostar/Thalys terminal) take Metro line 5 direction "Place d'Italie" and get out at the final destination. The ticket costs ? 1.40.

Hotel Information

All the hotels were chosen quite close to the place where the TC will take place. The closest subway station for all of them is "Place d'Italie", served by line 5, 6 and 7 (see above how to reach from the airports Charles de Gaulle and Orly, and Gare du Nord railway station).

The available capacity in all of the hotels is limited. However, you can chose almost any other hotel in Paris, as the subway system is very good.

All rates specified are approximate prices for single rooms, double or twin will cost a little more (around 10?). The order of the hotels is in ascending price. The star rating and pricing will give you some indication of facilities provided - look on the websites of the hotels for more.

Other Information

Paris: There are numerous sites on Paris, try for instance this one. Or have a look at the Eiffel Tower or Notre Dame live.

Weather: Today's weather and a forecast are clickable from here.

Power: 230V @ 50Hz, European continent type plugs (incompatible with US and UK ones).

Subway and bus: Paris has 14 Metro lines (numbers, from 1 to 14), 5 fast RER metro lines (letters, from A to E) and several Bus lines. Stations usually open around 5.30 am to close around 1 am (in the midst of night, taxi is the only pragmatic transportation option). A ticket to travel within Paris costs ? 1.40 or ? 10.50 for a "carnet" of 10 tickets. Several tourism tickets exist, check out the RATP site for more information. A nice transportation map is available here.
