TRANSITS course on 30 November - 1 December 2006 in Morschach, Switzerland
TERENA and FIRST will jointly organise a "TRANSITS" training course for CSIRTs
on 30 November - 1 December 2006 in Morschach, Switzerland. The workshop is
co-organised and sponsored by ENISA, the European Network and Information
Security Agency.
Five prominent members of the computer and network security community in Europe
will be presenting this two-day training course for staff members
(or future staff members) of Computer Security Incident Response Teams. The
course deals with the operational, organisational and legal aspects of incident
response and is aimed at professionals who are either members (or future
members) of existing computer security teams, or who will be involved in
building such a team within their organisation.
Course summary
The CSIRT training course aims to develop the knowledge and skills that are needed by staff who are members of a Computer Security Incident Response Team, who will join such a team, or who are involved in creating such a team. The course has been developed by members of a number of CSIRTs in Europe, from both the commercial and the academic sector, under the auspices of TERENAs task force TF-CSIRT. The workshop will be a mixture of presentations, exercises and discussion sessions, occupying two full days.
The course is designed to help trainees to work together to exchange information and develop their own ideas. To give the best opportunity for interaction, the workshop will be conducted in two parallel classes of about 10 people each. For the same reason, accommodation for all participants will be arranged at the workshop venue; informal discussions in the evenings are expected to be a valuable part of the training.
Pre-requisites
Trainees are typically experienced system, network or IT managers. (Interested persons from other backgrounds are welcome to contact the organisers to discuss the suitability of the course for them.) They are expected to have an awareness of the security issues involved in connecting computers to the Internet. They must be committed to using their skills to improve the security of computers and networks. For the technical side of the course, familiarity with the normal operation of TCP/IP networks, addresses, port numbers and protocols will be assumed.
Time and venue
The workshop will take place at the Swiss Holiday Park conference centre in Morschach, near the Vierwaltstaetter See (Lake of Lucerne) in central Switzerland. The workshop will start on Thursday 30 November 2006 at 9:00 hours and will finish on Friday 1 December 2006 at 22:00 hours. Participants are expected to arrive at the workshop venue on Wednesday evening 29 November 2006 before 20:00. Participants are expected to leave the workshop venue on Saturday morning 2 December 2006.
Costs
Participants from not-for-profit organisations will be charged a fee of 500 euro for the workshop package. The fee for participants from commercial companies will be 750 euro. Included in the workshop package are: the course materials, three nights stay in a single room (November 29th - December 1st), two dinners (November 30th and December 1st), two lunches and coffee/tea breaks.
