Joining Forces to Promote Cybersecurity in Africa

Accra (GHA) 28 – 30 September, 2015

FIRST Symposia event is open to all incident response/security industry professionals and subject to a vetting process and provide a discussion forum for FIRST member teams to share information about vulnerabilities, incidents, tools and all other issues that affect the operation of incident response and security teams.

Symposia typically provide a full day of plenary sessions for informal discussions and presentations on topics of interest to the FIRST membership. They are more sensitive in nature and related to the day-to-day work of participants. Day two is a series of interactive hands-on classes taught by leading security experts in small groups of FIRST team members.

The FIRST Symposia are typically hosted by members, and since 2005, are being organized on a regional basis in Latin-America, North-America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

About FIRST and AfricaCERT

FIRST (Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams) is the premier organization and recognized global leader in incident response. It brings together a variety of computer security incident response teams from government, commercial, and educational organizations. It aims to foster cooperation and coordination in incident prevention, to stimulate rapid reaction to incidents, and to promote information sharing among members and the community at large.

AfricaCERT (Africa Computer Emergency Response Teams) is the African forum of computer incident response teams who cooperatively handles computer security incidents and promotes incident prevention programs. The objectives of AfricaCERT is to assist African countries in establishing Computer Security and Incident Response Team (CSIRT), to provide by providing expertise and advise in formulating initiatives, programs and projects, related to the launch of CSIRTs in African countries and to encourage and support cooperation among such Team in the Africa Internet Service Region.

Presentation Subjects

With focus on Africa, the following topics could be considered: Cyber Insecurity Law Enforcement and Justice – Strengthening Critical Infrastructure Resilience and Preparedness – Cyberwarfare and military defense strategies – Mobile device security threats - Cybersecurity and Corporate image - Malware detection and large-scale automated analysis of malware – Cryptography and secure protocols suitable for emerging technologies and contexts - Modernizing International Procedures against Cyber-enabled Crimes.

Audience

The audience will be comprised of 100 - 150 knowledgeable information security practitioners. The will be mainly from the various CSIRTs in Africa, Government, Business, Academia, Police and Military.

Sessions

Traditional sessions will be a maximum of 60 minutes and should allow ample time for questions and interaction. Sessions should be planned to address the conference theme and be appropriate for experienced information security professionals.
