Call for Speakers
The Seoul of security is coming! The 28th Annual FIRST Conference is coming, and we are looking for engaging speakers to present on relevant incident response and information security topics.
From June 12-17, 2016, the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) will be holding their 2016 Annual Conference in Seoul, Korea. FIRST brings together a wide variety of security and incident response professionals from public, private and academic sectors around the world in an information exchange and co-operation of trust on issues of mutual interest.
The theme for this year's conference is, "Getting to the Soul of Incident Response." The conference will be held in the heart of Northeast Asia. With a population of over 10 million, Seoul has the unique and seamless ability to take you from an urban cityscape to UNESCO heritage site in the blink of an eye. Seoul is also a world leader in the field of information technology and boasts some of the most cutting-edge infrastructure.
We expect to have three major tracks running in parallel and a fourth track, for longer and more technical presentations. The conference will offer the opportunity for information security novices, experts and managers to engage in meaningful conversation and learning from relevant incident handling topics and ideas, such as:
- Incident Response Tools and Procedures: Case management; Attacker Attribution and Motives; Communicating with stakeholders, Collaborative projects, Determining cost of an incident; Scoping an incident
- Digital Investigations Tools, Resources, and Procedures: Network forensics; System forensics; Incident analysis; Malware analysis; Working with Law Enforcement
- Information Sharing: Indicator Sharing; Tool, process, or protocol updates; technical and non-technical knowledge sharing
- Threats: Emerging, Insider, Financial, International, Critical Infrastructure; Human Rights; Privacy
Process of Selection
The 2016 FIRST Conference Program Committee is soliciting original contributions framed around the conference theme, "Getting to the Soul of Incident Response." All submissions must reflect original contributions and must adequately document any overlap with previously published or simultaneously submitted presentations or papers from any of the authors. If authors have any doubts regarding whether such overlap exists, they should contact the Program Chair prior to submission via email to email@example.com.
Process of Evaluation
All submissions will be handled electronically through the presentation submission form. The Program Committee will evaluate all submissions based on quality and relevance. All accepted submissions are held in confidence for publication leading up to the conference.
Submissions received after the deadlines (see "Important Dates" below) may not be considered. Contact the Program Chair for cases of exceptions. Where employer, client or government authorization is needed, it is the responsibility of the author(s) to obtain that authorization prior to submitting the final materials.
Accepted papers will be presented by their author(s) and will be published in the Conference Proceedings with associated speaker biographies and head shots (if applicable). The Proceedings are provided free of charge to Conference attendees. After the Conference, papers will be published to the Members Only area of the FIRST website.
FIRST welcomes media to attend the Conference and report on activities. If your presentation is sensitive in nature and requires special handling, please contact the Program Chair.
Details of Presentations
Presentations should fall into the following categories:
- 20 minutes, with 5 minutes for questions
- 45 minutes, with 10 minutes for questions
- 3 hours of interactive, technical deep-dives and demonstrations
Presentations should be topical and unique. You should not present with the aim of gaining the audience's interest in any commercial application or product. In other words, NO MARKETING PRESENTATIONS.
At this time we are seeking proposals and abstracts covering the presenters' names, organizations they represent, topics, and length of the presentation. The language of the conference is English. Submissions may be made by clicking on the "Add Your Submission" link located in the left navigation bar.
FIRST requires a non-exclusive copyright license for all speaker presentations delivered at the Conference and includes distribution on the FIRST website(s).
Speakers with 45-60 minute presentations will receive a complimentary conference admission (1 per presentation). Speakers for 20-45 minute presentations will receive their choice of a complimentary 1-day pass, or a discounted rate of $1200 USD for a full registration pass.
