New Board Member: Graciela Martinez Giordano

After many years of dedicated work in building and sustaining the LAC-CSIRTs community—enhancing incident response capabilities, supporting the creation of new CSIRTs, and advancing capacity building across the LAC region through initiatives such as the FIRST Symposium and other security conferences—I decided to run for the FIRST Board of Directors. I’d like to thank everyone for their support and am looking forward to contributing as the newest FIRST Board member.

I have worked diligently to bring capacity building on creating CSIRTs according to FIRST’s guidance and on managing security incidents reports. As a result, on behalf of LACNIC CSIRT, we have trained over a thousand professionals.

Consequently, I am a trusted voice in the LAC community, which has allowed me to organize Technical Colloquium and Symposium together with FIRST and Team Cymru’s Regional Security Conferences within LACNIC’s annual events.

My extensive experience has developed a solid understanding of security incident response and capacity-building needs. This insight will enable me to contribute meaningfully to the enhancement of FIRST’s strategic plan in the upcoming years . I would also like to act as a liaison, not only for the LAC region, by listening and understanding the challenges facing regions that are not fully represented to help them become FIRST’s members. Additionally, I hope my journey can inspire other women and young professionals, showing them that it is possible to build a successful and fulfilling career in the field of cybersecurity.

Some key achievements in security incident management: 1 - I led the creation and development of LACNIC CSIRT, following the service framework defined by FIRST. 2 - Since 2014, I've been actively supporting the growth of the LAC-CSIRTs community—organizing its meetings during LACNIC events and helping keep communication flowing among its members. 3 - I’ve also been deeply involved in capacity building across the LAC region, helping teams create and strengthen their CSIRTs based on FIRST’s best practices and standards. 4 - One of the highlights has been adapting and bringing the training “Curso básico para la creación y gestión de un CSIRT” to LACNIC’s CAMPUS—a Spanish-language version that helps break the language barrier many professionals face when accessing technical content. 5 - Co-organized together with FIRST, nine (9) FIRST Symposium for LAC region.

Over the years, more than a thousand professionals have participated in these training initiatives—and it’s been a privilege to contribute to that impact.

I hold a degree in Computer Engineering from the School of Engineering, Universidad de la Republica and a Diploma in Telecommunications and Networks from ORT University, both in Uruguay. Currently, I lead the LACNIC CSIRT, the team responsible for coordinating the services required to strengthen computer security incident response capabilities for incidents involving Latin American and Caribbean Internet resources. I also coordinate IT security conferences and training courses aimed at disseminating technical knowledge on security incident management and building trust within the regional and international technical communities. I have over 25 years of experience in IT, and more than 15 years dedicated to computer security and its promotion, both within the Latin American and Caribbean CSIRT community and with other international Internet security communities.
